Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week I mostly stayed near my home and work, but I rode my bicycle into Dili a couple of times for the weekly hike in the hills and to visit the Peace Corps office. Even short trips on my bike feel like little adventures, and I get some good exercise along the way!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

This week marks three years since I first arrived in Timor-Leste! Most of that time I’ve spent here, but I’ve also had the chance to travel around the region to Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan. I even got to visit the United States twice, once to South Carolina and another time to Idaho and Utah. It’s been a huge adventure full of new places, people and experiences.

How did I get around this week?:

This week I got around by riding my bicycle, walking and even taking a car ride with a friend. Biking and walking let me see animals, nature and the city up close, and the car ride was a fun change of pace.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was right here at the Bamboo Institute! I gave a tour to members of the Ministry of Education. There’s another American, a former Peace Corps volunteer, who is helping them write new English textbooks.
