Bom Dia! Hi there! My name is Shelby. I am 29 years old and I am from Washington, D.C. I moved to D.C. for college in 2007. I got a degree in public health and began working in research. I currently work as a research scientist, and in 2016 I started a Ph.D. program. I am now finishing my degree in criminology, which is the study of crime.
This year I am living in Belo Horizonte, the capital city of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. I received a U.S. Student Fulbright Grant to research how workers are treated here and what to do when people do not treat workers fairly. I will be talking to all kinds of different people including lawyers, judges, students and police officers. I am excited to be in Brazil this year with my two kids (ages eight and four months), two cats (Peep and Panda), and my husband.
When we arrived in January, it was still summer vacation here so we got to explore a little bit. The picture I added to this post is my whole family--except the cats--in Rio de Janeiro after we did a hike called "Sugarloaf Mountain."
I am so excited to share my adventures with you and to learn more about your class!
