Six Weeks Later

I can happily report that not only is this becoming more of a reality but I have decided to look for a job here in São Paulo in January so I can continue living in a city I love and investing in all my connections here.

Often, I feel lost in my research. I have folks who help guide me, but at the end of the day, I am conducting a completely independent project. The subject of my research is politically unsteady as many politicians are trying to do away with arts funding in Brazil. I get nervous about what publication of my research could mean for the theatre groups I have grown close to. But I am also encouraged by them and folks back in the U.S. to continue exploring and feel comfortable being confused about what exactly my final product may look like. A reminder I hold close is that my research is also a way to resist the monetary cuts in theatre funding here in São Paulo. I can use my work to shed international light on what is happening and hopefully rally more support.

Six weeks is long and it is short. I have loved sharing my experience with you all through Reach the World and it has encouraged me to think more deeply about my surroundings here in Brazil. I hope you all have enjoyed the ride as much as I have, and I hope your curiosity not just about Brazil, but the whole world, will bring you to new places and opportunities in your future. Tchau for now!
