Marzipan

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

The Persians were the first ones to add almonds, sugar and water together. Back in the 800s, German crusaders came home from that region and brought the sweet treat with them. In Luebeck, Germany, the rest of the ingredients were added to make Marzipan what it is now! At the time, it was only available to royalty and people with a lot of money. Marzipan is still a very expensive treat today! You can find it all the time in stores, but it is eaten even more often during any festival season.
