Our News

What activity was the most fun this week?:

My favorite activity this week was going for a walk and taking the time to listen to all of the different bird songs. There are over 350 different birds where I live. Some live in the trees or in the grassy savannah, and others live near the river.

What did I read this week?:

I am lucky to have a library in Kasane, the town closest to me. I have a library card and can take out two books at a time for a month. I am currently enjoying a book of short stories, called Botswana Women Write. They were written during different time periods and represent various voices and perspectives. I am hoping to better understand the history of women in Botswana and the lives they have written about.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

This week I played Uno with the kids that live near me. It is a simple enough game that the language barrier is less important than the gigling and body language we share!

I also watched some kids play soccer, or football, as they call it here. Most kids only have a pair of school shools and a pair of sandals or Crocs, so they usually play barefooted. It wasn't an offical game, just kids playing in an open field after school.

Other news from this week:

Things are quiet in the community now as the children prepare for the end of term exams before having a school break for Easter. Some of the trees are bearing fruit, such as the custard apple, and we all know that cooler temperatures are coming in May with highs in the low 70s.
