Svamp Hunting in the Swedish Forest!

Introduction:

One of the things I learned when I moved here was that every Swede has a svamp (mushroom) hunting spot, but you must never ask where it is, as it is usually a closely guarded family secret. I went out with my host a few times to different areas around our home to look for mushrooms, and although we didn't find any worth eating, I sure did find plenty to photograph!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

I saw mushrooms of all sizes, shapes, thicknesses and colors. I saw mushrooms smaller than my pinky nail and bigger than my foot! The brightest were the fly agaric mushrooms, bright red with white polka dots, that I had only ever seen in art and fairy tales! They're cute, but they're also extremely poisonous!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

It was so much fun to stomp through the forest and discover mushrooms of all sizes and types.

Sweden has a policy called allemansrätten, or the "right to roam," which means anyone can go anywhere in nature as long as they do so respectfully. It was so fun and freeing to know we could explore anywhere we wanted to!

Where does it live?:

Mushrooms are everywhere in Sweden's forests, and they're all over the grass, too. Sweden is over 70% forest, so there are plenty of mushrooms out there!
