Included in this mostly marble memorial was a full garden filled with fruit and olive trees. Olive trees are common here, but the whole garden was such a difference from the city right outside the memorial's walls.
Another way that nature is integrated into the city is through the roads. Along most roads in Jordan there is a line of trees. These are often built into the center of the sidewalks. When the trees are small, these are nice natural elements on the roadsides. However, as the trees grow, they slowly crowd out the space for walking, so many people walk in the road instead of the sidewalks. It is very common here!
