Transportation in Spain

Introduction:

Hola!

Spain has great public transportation systems. Back at home in Kansas, I have my own car, so I never had to use the bus or any sort of ride or shuttle. I will be sharing my experience using the metro, tramvia and bus here in Bilbao.  I'm learning a lot while studying here!

How do people get around?:

People here have cars and bikes, but most of them use the metro or other public transportation system because it is more affordable. Many students have a bike to go to school if they live close by, but if not, they usually take the metro since it goes to various cities that are up to 40 minutes away from Bilbao.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

The first time I tried the metro, I was very scared. I was scared because I was thinking, "What if I get lost?" or "What if I don't buy the right ticket?" All these things came to my mind, and I felt nervous. It was a new experience, so I needed to have patience and understand that I had to learn this.  To learn something new, I  needed to have an open mind.

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Yes, getting around by metro or the tramvia is definitely connected to Spanish and Basque culture.
