The Mediterranean

Introduction:

The French region of Provence is shaped culturally and geographically by its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea. Mediterranean literally means between lands, and in the context of this sea, the word means that it is a sea in between Europe and Africa. Because of this, there is cultural exchange between North Africa and Southern Europe ,as well as similar physical terrain. It has been so interesting to live in this part of the world where so many cultures come together. The landscape of the regions surrounding the Mediterranean Sea are home to many beautiful plants, such as the prickly pear cacti, and interesting animals as well. 

What makes this environment special or different?:

The temperature and climate varies greatly throughout the year in Provence and other regions near the Mediterranean Sea. This means that the summers are very hot and dry, autumns are crisp, winters are wet and cold and springs are full of life and rain. Because of all of this variation, there are many different types of plants and animals that thrive at different times of year, here. This also means that people can utilize elements of the natural environment in their lives in many different ways.
