Taiwan: Food Heaven

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Eating shaved snow ice was definitely the right move after a hot day out on the beach, as this dessert was very refreshing and delicious. I also love eating out with big groups of friends because you can order multiple dishes for everyone to share and try. Good food is even better with great company to share it with!

How is the food prepared?:

The shaved snow ice was prepared from a machine that looked like the kind that dispenses self-serve yogurt. I love getting snow ice in Taiwan because, unlike snow ice in the USA, this dessert in Taiwan has a lighter and fluffier consistency, and is also very flavorful. When I had this dessert after snorkelling, they served it out of a coral shell to match the island vibe!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Taiwan has tropical weather all-year round and gets pretty hot and humid over the summers, especially if you live in the Southern part of the island. Consequently, people need to hydrate frequently with cold drinks and fresh desserts. Luckily, Taiwan is also a fruit heaven, home to many cheap and sweet fruits, like pineapples and mangoes to name a few. So I guess it isn't surprising that shaved snow ice topped with mangoes is a go-to dessert for me as a way to cool down during the humid summers, here!
