It was so hot outside. Temperatures rose above 80 degrees fahrenheit. Whenever it gets this hot, the walls in my house start to sweat. I live in a brick house with a tin roof, so there is no escaping the heat when I am inside. When I am outside, the heat sort of sticks to me like glue. After a couple of days of heat waves, the skies opened up and poured down rain. The storms brought thunder and lightning. There is a saying here in Lesotho that rain is prosperity. It is even in the country’s national anthem: “Pula!” (rain), “Nala!” (prosperity). Rain is a good thing because it waters our crops, helping our plants to grow. The rain fills my water barrels with plenty of water for cooking, bathing and cleaning.
