Ojeda is a very small town with a lot of poverty, and because of that, sports programs and youth development initiatives can sometimes be pushed to the wayside to make room for needs that may seem more essential or immediate. Lucky for me, I have access to grants through the Peace Corps that offer money for things like this! So, I applied and was offered full funding for this initiative!
Because of the funds offered through the Peace Corps and because of the interest and dedication of my community members, the construction of Ojeda's first-ever basketball court is underway and is expected to be completed in July! I am so excited to see the rest of this project come to life, and for kids to have increased capacity to safely and sustainably practice sports!
