This is a brief interview with one of my students, Ana Luisa, who is eight years old and in the third grade. I work with her almost every day, and she's one of my best students! Let's see what she has to say about her life...
"I eat breakfast and lunch at school. Breakfast is usually eggs with a boiled plantain, and lunch is a combination of rice with chicken, eggplant, or fish. For dinner, I eat at home. It depends on the day, but sometimes I have some bread, or my favorite is when my parents give me money to get fried chicken from Gloria's."
Context - Gloria's fried chicken is some of the only prepared food that people in town buy outside the home, so for some kids it's a special treat!
"My house is a cement home, sort of like Tess's, except it has a tin roof. There are three bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a bathroom. My mom, dad, two brothers, one sister, and grandmother all live there. I share a room with my three siblings."
