THIS THUS (;) -- Maya and Roxanna, a London Musical Duo

We’ve been playing our instruments for so long, it’s so much a part of us. I feel like I know where I am, and that everything is okay. Cello is a comfort to me; it’s my friend. As a musical duo, Maya and I like to improvise music together. 

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Maya: I’m learning Hebrew! (Shalom!)

Roxanna: I speak Russian (Privet!), and I’m learning Persian/Farsi (Salam!).

Do you have pets?:

Maya: I have a dog!

Roxanna: Nope, no pets.

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

Maya: I went to New York and Philadelphia last year! Other fun places I’ve visited: Morocco, Holland, Prague, Italy, Israel and Hungary.

Roxanna: I’ve visited Russia, Slovenia, Serbia (what an experience!), Croatia and Hungary.

What do you do for work?:

Maya & Roxanna: We have fun, we express ourselves and we are freelance performers and teachers in schools. We are also both second-year masters students studying piano and cello at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Maya: I used to teach musicianship classes in schools for young kids.

Roxanna: I teach musical instruments in schools.

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

You can always find a way to be yourself, even if that means doing things some people don’t like. Don’t be afraid to be different.
