'Tiwonana' and Farewell from Malawi

In the meantime I will continue working towards my dreams and goals living back in the states. I plan to continue working on a non-profit business I co-founded last year, get back into the epilepsy research I was doing in the United States, and spend some time with family and friends before heading to medical school.

The Fulbright Program is something I would recommend you consider in the future, regardless of your career goals. Put simply, Fulbright is the U.S. government’s flagship foreign exchange program. It helps people from different countries learn from each other, share ideas, and make the world a friendlier place. I had never really heard about the Fulbright Program until my senior year of college. Even though I was a non-traditional applicant as a pre-medical student, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to apply. I interviewed with a team from the U.S. Embassy in Malawi, and was awarded the grant in April before flying out in September 2024 for the 9-month program. As you have read over the past few months, I was fortunate enough to tailor the program to my interests and goals, creating an experience that exceeded all expectations. It has been immensely rewarding and I can honestly say it has been life-changing.

Unfortunately, my grant coming to an end also means our journey together has to come to an end as well. I have loved getting to know each of you through every interaction. The video calls were so fun and the occasional email update was my favorite. Just as I am excited to see what is in store for my future, I am also excited to see what is in store for yours. You are all going to do such amazing things. The future is as bright as your dreams. I hope you have enjoyed this adventure as much as I have.
