Just like other organisms, coffee plants can be attacked by a variety of diseases. One of these diseases is called Coffee Leaf Rust, where the dark green leaves of the plant become yellow and spotted. This disease is caused by a fungus called Hemileia vastatrix. This disease can be worrying, especially for larger-scale coffee farmers who rely on good crop yields for their livelihoods. Therefore, a lot of farmers decide to use chemicals called fungicides to kill the fungus and prevent Coffee Leaf Rust, therefore improving the coffee yield and preventing further spread of the disease.
