Traditional Czech Cuisine

Introduction:

While most of the food that I have been eating while living abroad, I have cooked myself, I have also made it a point to explore local Czech restaurants. This is both a great way to discover new foods and to practice my Czech! In my Czech language classes, we have been learning how to order off a menu, so it feels good to be able to put my Czech to practice.

What food did I try?:

Some of my favorite Czech foods I have tried are Czech bread and dumplings filled with mushrooms, cabbage, and cheese (knedliky). I also liked garlic soup (cesnecka), open-faced sandwiches (chlebicky) with potato salad and cheese, as well as fried cheese with tartar sauce (smazeny syr).

Interestingly, there is also a very large Vietnamese population living in Prague. So there are many amazing authentic Vietnamese restaurant options. On cold, rainy days, I have been enjoying warming myself up with a bowl of Vietnamese pho, rice noodles in a spicy broth with vegetables and tofu.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

This section will be added at a later time.

How is the food prepared?:

As you might have noticed from my descriptions, Czech food is super cheesy and often fried.
