Let the Expedition Begin!

We’ll hopefully see incredible species, like the large-billed toucan, pink river dolphin, and the striking scarlet macaws that chatter in the treetops. Our eyes will be searching for three-toed sloths and jabiru storks looking for food in the shallows, and maybe even a glimpse of the rare electric-blue morpho butterfly.

We’ll also visit a village where the ribereños, or river people, have lived for generations. They’re working to protect the thousands of butterfly species that call the Amazon home, showing us how important conservation is.

We’ll explore the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, the largest wetlands (a low-lying area where the land is covered with water) reserve in the world. It’s home to the adorable capybara, a giant rodent that’s native to South America, and countless tropical plants and animals.

Here's where we're going...you can start your research about these places by exploring this Google Map!

I hope that learning more about me and where we're going together has inspired you to start your own research on the Amazon River Basin and Peru. What are you curious to learn more about? We're going to have a great adventure!
