I have traveled about 500 miles by ship this week, beginning in Athens and traveling through Velos, Delos, Mykonos, Kusadasi, Patmos, Rhodes and Santorini.
I flew about 5,500 miles from Chicago to Athens, and we have traveled an additional 500 miles by ship during our journey throughout the Greek Isles. Most of the ship travel happens at night while I am sleeping, so I wake up in a totally new place.
This week, I traveled by cruise ship, coach bus, tender (a small boat that takes passengers from the larger ship to shore) and I've done a lot of walking. I also did a little swimming, but I just swam in circles so it didn't get me anywhere.
There are so many to choose from, but I would have to say Patmos, Greece. It is a smaller Greek island, and the main attraction is a beautiful monastary (church) on the top of the tallest hill. After we visited the monastary, I was able to walk down the side of the hill to the harbor, and I could see our ship in the harbor far below. It was very quiet and calm, and it was helpful in imagining how peaceful island life on Patmos must be.
