The fortified city (meaning a city that is protected from being invaded by things like giant walls) is a world heritage site, meaning it is a place that is important to the history of mankind. There aren't exactly medieval castles in the United States, so the only thing I could think about while going on the tour was, "I feel like I just walked into Duloc from Shrek".
The city inside is completely dedicated to the medieval history of the city. Restaurants serve traditional foods using the original medieval recipes. They sell trinkets and flags featuring the original symbols of the city, and they have homes inside that look exactly like the original settlement (even though no one lives there, anymore).
