I travelled 8 hours by bus to another Amazonian community to visit the caves. It cost me $15 one way.
When I first arrived to Ecuador, I lived in a neighborhood in the capital city of Quito. After 3 months of training, we were then assigned to live in a different community, anywhere in the country. Some people got rural villages and others, large, urban cities. I got a community that's somewhere in the middle: semi-urban, in the jungle, but also, a 20 hour drive away from Quito. It took me two days to travel to my site because it is on the opposite side of the country, in the southernmost province. I am one of the furthest volunteers from the main Peace Corps office in Quito.
I usually take the city bus to work, which takes about 10 minutes and 30 cents. The bus stop is conveniently at the end of my street. From work, I usually choose to walk to travel from place to place. It takes me around 35 minutes to walk home. If I am travelling outside of my community, I use the bus!
