The food is very connected to the environment. In the places that I've travelled to especially, I've noticed that restaurants prioritize ingredients grown by domestic producers.
To understand this trend, I draw on knowledge from the German Culture and Cuisine course I'm enrolled in. There, I learned about the different food movements since the German Revolution in 1848, where German citizens began to put pressure on governing officials to better regulate the quality of food available to the public. Since then, one of the biggest movements here for healthier, more natural and self reliant eating was called Anthroposophy.
So today, a conscience of sustainable and green/healthy eating is baked into the culture of food preparation throughout Germany.
