Tuk-Tuks

Introduction:

In Cambodia’s major city, Phnom Penh, the streets are busy with people, bikes, motorbikes, cars, trucks and trollies. But the best way to get around this bustling city is by taking a tuk-tuk. Tuk-tuks are like taxis, but instead of a car, they are motorbikes that pull a large, three-wheeled wagon.

How do people get around?:

It feels like everyone in the city of Phnom Penh is on the move. The streets are crowded with hundreds of people at all times. You’ll find families of up to eight squeezed into a tuk-tuk. Mothers ride on motorbikes with their two children. Vendors walk the streets selling bracelets, dried fish, snails, fruit and ice cream out of carts. The most common form of transportation is motorbikes. But my favorite way of getting around in Cambodia is jumping in the back of a tuk-tuk.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

When I first saw the tuk-tuks outside of the airport, I was incredibly excited to hop in! Motorbike drivers decorate their vehicles to reflect their personal style. My tuk-tuk driver adorned his car with fun lights and pretty, fabric seat covers. His name was Sanghai, and he was equally as excited to give me a ride.
