For the past six weeks, I’ve written about my experiences in Malaysia as they happened to me. I shared pictures and stories about Malaysian food, local sub-cultures and my students. I also shared my misconceptions about the country, the work being done to keep it green, and my efforts to make lasting friendships with the people in my community. The past six weeks have given me a wonderful journey. I made new friends, learned a lot about a religion different from mine, stepped out of my comfort zone and traveled a lot. I have had many special moments in my life that I will always remember.
I have four months left until I return home to the U.S. While I am happy about to stay a bit longer, I already know that I will miss Malaysia dearly when I finally board the plane to go home. This experience has given me so much to think about and shaped how I view the world. My hope is that one day you get to travel the world, too. There is much to see and experience! If there's one thing I would like you to take away from my journey, it's to keep an open-mind when meeting new people. This is an important step in becoming a responsible traveler and person in general. I believe in you. As Dr. Seuss wrote in Oh The Places You'll Go, "And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed!
