Motorbikes are the primary mode of transportation in Vietnam. There are motorbikes everywhere here, particularly in big cities. Before coming to Vietnam, I was a bit anxious about riding a motorbike around town. Now, I am much more comfortable on the road and look forward to my daily commute. Motorbikes are a major part of the culture here and serve an important role in Vietnamese society. Hope you enjoy my pictures from the streets of Vietnam!
Most Vietnamese people get around on motorbikes. The city I live in, Can Tho, has a lot of motorbikes. However, motorbike traffic in Can Tho is less chaotic than Vietnam's biggest city, Ho Chi Minh City. Most people own either a motorbike or a bicycle, while cars are much less common. Motorbikes are more affordable than cars and easier to navigate in heavy traffic. Nevertheless, motorbikes are also very dangerous. Unfortunately, motorbike accidents in Vietnam are fairly common. It is important to drive slowly and always be aware of your surroundings. Vietnam requires every motorbike rider to wear a helmet on the roads. This is an important law to promote the health and safety of motorbike passengers. However, the quality of Vietnamese helmets has a lot of room for improvement. Motorbikes are very fun to ride in the city and the countryside, but it is important to realize that safety comes first!
