Visiting a Homeschool Classroom in South Africa

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

In traditional schools, South African children are learning the same subjects that you are including English, history, science, and math! However, in the homeschool, the kids are allowed to do extra courses of whatever they wanted! Some of the kids were learning German. One little girl was learning graphic design! What classes would you choose if you were allowed to choose whatever you wanted?

What is your homework like?:

The homeschool kids do not have homework because they do all their activities in their classroom, but they described how those activities went. They said that there are challenges like essays and multiple choice. It sounded similar to how they are in the United States.

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

The popular answer for what they like to do after school was to play outside or play a sport. I asked if they enjoyed playing video games. While they said yes, none of the children owned any game consoles. Some of the girls enjoyed doing gymnastics after school.

The favorite sports question had the room torn. Some of the kids enjoyed tennis the most, others enjoyed rugby and the rest liked gymnastics or netball. Netball is a sport that I still don't fully understand, but it's similar to basketball.

Who is your favorite famous person?:

All of the famous people they told me about are sports players from South Africa. They included soccer and tennis players.

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

The only band I understood that wasn't in Afrikaans was Imagine Dragons!
