What advice would give someone who wants to work with AUVs? Work hard and find a manual skill and develop it. Build on your mechanical skills and one day they will be useful!
Todd Oxner:
Where are you from? I am from Ann-Arbor, Michigan.
What has been a highlight of your career so far? Working with the high technology that we use here at Ocean Infinity. It is state-of-the-art, best in the business.
Where/what job has been the most interesting you have worked? The search for MH370, which was a Malaysian airplane that went missing in 2014. We deployed eight AUVs in the water at one time! To give you an idea of how many this is, we have two here in Antarctica and deploy them one at a time due to the sea ice conditions. In open water, these vehicles can run autonomously (which means it can run independently and does not need to be operated by a human). We covered 1,012,000 square kilometers with our AUVs... that is larger than the state of Virginia!
Tune in on Wednesday 30th January for a live stream from the online room, the heart of the operations, where you can meet the team and ask them any question that you may have!
