New Zealand cuisine is similar to that of Australia with Britsh, Mediterranean and Pacific Rim influences. Common foods include seafood, roast lamb, Māori hāngīà (foods cooked traditionally in a pit in the ground), fish and chips, and much more. The ingredients are known for being fresh from the local land and sea. Historical and cultural influences on the cuisine have come from the Māori and British cultures.
While at the Botanical Garden Cafe, I ate a simple New Zealand breakfast that included sausages, egg, mushroom, bacon and kūmara (sweet potato). I also tried fish and chips, a popular takeaway food in New Zealand. There are a variety of fish such as warehou, deepsea cod and tarakihi.
The breakfast by the garden was very tasty. Later, I ate the fish and chips while walking by the harbor. I was very happy and relaxed during both of my food experiences.
The breakfast included scrambled eggs, grilled mushrooms, pan-cooked bacon, grilled sauages and fried kūmara. The fish and chips were deep fried and lightly salted to taste. Both were best when served hot.
