How else will I know if I like it or not? If I do not try it, I could miss out on a great dish that may become one of my favorites. For instance, I just discovered I love tietartiflette, and may need my host mom to share her recipe with me, so I can share this wonderful dish with my friends and family back home.
For the entrée we had pumpkin soup. I dug right in, so I didn't know what type of soup it was until I asked and was surprised to find out it was pumpkin! I never usually eat pumpkin back home, but this soup was so delicious. Then we had our plat principal which was the tietartiflette, I was excited to try it because I love cheese. When I saw it come out of the oven I was instantly intrigued by the smells and the wonderful melted cheese on top. The taste was exquisite, and the melted cheese and warm potatoes were a great combination with the wonderful spices. I asked for seconds because I enjoyed it so much! By the end of the plat principal I didn't have room for dessert anymore. It was by far one of the best meals I've had so far in my time here.
To prepare the tietartiflette, my host mom started by cooking the potatoes in a saucepan. She fried bacon, shallots and garlic. Once the potatoes were cooked, she sliced the potatoes thinly and layered them with bacon and reblochon cheese slices and added salt and fresh black pepper. She then put the dish in the oven and let it bake for about 15 minutes until the cheese was melted into a golden-brown color.
