The coolest thing I got to experience in nature this week happened one night when I was trying to sleep. I could not fall asleep because I kept hearing some strange noises that sounded like a mix of laughing and howling with some cackles mixed in, too. The next morning I asked one of my roommates what it was, and they told me that it was hyenas (like the ones from The Lion King movie)!! I was so scared because I had never seen or heard a hyena before but apparently they just walk around in areas at night in Jordan. Even though it was a little bit scary, it ended up being okay because I only ever heard them and never saw them in the flesh!
Picking fruit from trees is very common in Jordan because many people have farms. When I was in Amman, the most popular fruit in the winter were oranges so I saw those everywhere. Usually in the summer the most popular fruits are figs and dates which both of which are very sweet and grow best in very dry, warm climates such as in Jordan or California.
