The main language spoken in Jordan is Arabic. I went to Jordan for an intensive Arabic language program where they encouraged us to speak only in Arabic. We all took a pledge at the beginning of the semester to speak only speak Arabic with our teachers and our classmates. It was very difficult to keep to this pledge, but in doing so, we were helped a lot with actually learning the language. Even though Arabic is the main language spoken in Jordan, many people also speak English because they learned it in school or through work.
In Jordan, the currency is called the Jordanian dinar (JD). In the United States, 1 dinar would equal about $1.40.
A bottle of water in Jordan costs about 0.30 JD, which is very cheap! Imagine buying a bottle of water for 50 cents in the United States: that would be pretty cheap! The tap water in Jordan is not clean, so everybody buys bottled water from convenience stores and grocery stores.
