I have been trying to listen to Arab music this week in order to improve my Arabic! Music is very helpful when working on pronunciation and expanding vocabulary and common phrases in a foreign language. The music, here, has helped a lot in this respect and is making me more comfortable with the Arabic language and the songs are also very pretty and catchy!
My friends and I played a game of UNO together but we did it completely in Arabic! It was so much fun, and it was great practice for remembering the colors and numbers in Arabic.
In school, we were reading this book called Rijal fi Shams, which transaltes to "Men in the Sun". In class, we discussed the different chapters and learned the different vocabulary used in each chapter.
Card and board games are very popular in the Middle East so we practiced chess in class and learned how to say each of the chess pieces in Arabic. It was very exciting because people play chess together in cafes. My friends also played a game of soccer in the field next to our dorm!
I got to try a very popular sandwich among college students in Jordan. It is called a "Zinger" and is a chicken sandwich with mayonnaise and lettuce. It cost 0.50 JD and tasted exactly like a McChicken from McDonald's, but was much cheaper! McDonald's in Jordan is actually much more expensive than it is in the United States because it is not as common as it is in America.
