Diversity in Singapore

Introduction:

Translation:

In my last note, I would like to discuss community in Singapore.

What community need did I learn about?:

Translation:

I have discussed the many ethnic groups of Singapore before: Chinese, Indians, Malaysians and Westerners. The Singaporean government works hard to keep the peace between these groups.

Why does the community have this need?:

Translation:

Before Singapore became independent, there was conflict between the different groups in Singapore. Although 70% of Singapore's population is Chinese, Singapore is also located on the Malay Peninsula with 20% of the population being Malay. Therefore, the Chinese and Malays were divided over who should rule the island.

Is this need being met? How?:

Translation:

The Singaporean government responded by promising equal rights for all. The government ensures that different races live together, learn together and work together. In today's society, Singapore sees diversity as a strength.
