Traditions in Northeastern China

Why does the community have this tradition?:

The community makes pickled cabbage to provide them with nutrients in the long and cold winter months when growing vegetables is more difficult or impossible. Everyone eats apples now because they are in season and are so yummy at the peak of their growing season.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

Yes, since both cabbage and apples are directly related to the environment, seasons and weather. It can be difficult to grow food in the winter, but cabbage is a vegetable that can be easily grown in the northeast for most of the year and then pickled for the coldest months. It makes sense for this region that there is a tradition of preserving foods to last people through the coldest winter months.
