There are many ways to get from place to place in Shenyang. Shenyang is a city of over eight million people, so whichever transportation you use, you will see many other people during your travels. The streets are always very busy with cars, buses, bikes and motorbikes, not to mention people like me walking! You have to be very careful while traveling to make sure that you are not in the way of traffic.
Most people get around using either taxis, buses or a bicycle sharing system. A taxi is the most expensive way to travel, and the shared bicycle is the cheapest. My favorite way to travel is the bus. The bus is only two yuan per ride and the buses are always very clean and can get you quickly from place to place. Many other people also share my love for riding the bus. It is probably the most popular way to travel in Shenyang.
The first time I rode the bus, I was with friends who showed me how to navigate the system. They told me where the routes go, and how to pay. This was so helpful! Now when I ride the bus, I feel comfortable. I usually wish I knew more Mandarin so that I could speak with people more easily on the bus, but hopefully soon I will know enough Mandarin to do this.
