The food and juices are prepared fresh and with local ingredients. Again, limes and potatoes in particular are popular ingredients. In the Andes region, cuy (guinea pig) and alpaca are popular, too - but I haven't mustered up the courage to try those yet!

La comida está profundamente ligada al entorno local de muchas maneras. Es el orgullo de Lima y de Perú, y se manifiesta a través del lenguaje. Gran parte de la jerga peruana utiliza palabras relacionadas con la comida.

The food is deeply connected to the local environment in many ways. It is the pride of Lima and of Peru, and it manifests through language.

Much of Peruvian slang uses food words:

  • Qué piña = qué mala suerte / what bad luck
  • Qué palta = qué vergüenza / what a shame 
  • Qué papaya = qué fácil / how easy
  • Que yuca (una raíz comestible) = qué difícil / how difficult

 

  • Palta = problema / problem
  • Lenteja = lento / slow
  • Arroz con mango = confuso / confusing
  • Mi causa = mi amigo / my friend
