Learning Spanish opened up a world of new opportunities and adventures for me, even when I could not speak it fluently. I studied abroad in Ecuador, conducted immigration research in Mexico, and even competed in gymnastics in Ecuador and Colombia. I was the first girl to represent Ecuador in an international tumbling and trampoline competition. I even won an international gold medal for power tumbling and bronze medal for double mini trampoline! Now, my Spanish skills have taken me to Arequipa and Catac (Ancash), two cities in Peru where I am teaching English and serving my surrounding communities for the next two semesters.
