An Afternoon Interview with Gabby

Her grandfather is a great carpenter that builds things for the family and other members of the community. 

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

For Gabby, school starts at 8 in the morning and she comes home at 1 in the afternoon. 

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Gabby walks to school every day and usually by herself. Gabby lives two blocks away from her school. Our town of Matara is small and safe. Gabby knows everyone in the community.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Gabby comes home after school and has lunch with her family at the dining table. She really likes fried chicken and french fries with ketchup. 

 

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Gabby speaks Spanish, so she says “hola” which means “hello” in English. Or, she starts a conversation with a greeting like “good morning” or “buenos dias” in Spanish. 

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Some common girl names include Estrella, Jhaira, Daniela, Yeni and Luz. Common boy names include Alexis, Luis, Christian and Wilson.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Gabby likes English class and gym class where she can play volleyball with her friends. 

What is your homework like?:

Usually, Gabby has worksheets to complete or a class project where she can be creative and do arts and crafts.
