Our News

Whenever I miss home I tune into this music as a little touch of home.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Checking out the art island on Naoshima was amazing. You could not take pictures on the inside, which I initially thought was unfair. But, I realized they do not allow you to take pictures to preserve the incredible moment of seeing the art in person. These pieces toy with your ability to understand perception, forcing you to change your perception to get different views of the artwork.

What did I read this week?:

I began reading Chrysanthemum and the Sword. It is a book that was created to predict the actions of Japanese society during World War II. I am reading it to assist my own study of the culture. Although it is extremely outdated, it is a book that has influenced the perception of Japanese culture and continues to do so today.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

We had another game this weekend in Osaka! It was exciting, and although we unfortunately lost, it was a lot of fun. We played the Masahide Blazers, they were a very tough team and had many great players.

Other news from this week:

An old Princeton in Asia alumni who is currently doing research in Japan came to visit! His name is Dr. Han, and he was in this same post 20 years ago. We have been hanging out a lot this week, and he has taught me so much about how Japanese culture has influenced his life. It was exciting to see a possibility of what I could become in the future.
