Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

Japanese is the main language, however during my time discovered that there is  "Okayama-ben." Adding "ben" to a prefecture denotes a dialect. There are certain words used in Okayama that are specific to that area. We have this in the United States as well: for example on the East Coast soda is known as soda, however, in the Midwest soda is known as pop. In Japan when you say: "therefore," you say "dakara," but in Okayama "jaakeh" is how you would say "therefore."

What type of money is used here?:

¥ or Yen! Remember, it is about 100¥ to 1 U.S. dollar.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

When I visited Naoshima, everything was so much more expensive than in Okayama. Water cost 250¥ or $2.50.

What was the best meal this week?:

This week I had セルフうどん; pronounced: "serufu udon." In English, that means "self-serve Noodles." It was delicious, first, you picked fresh brown or white noodles, then the toppings. My toppings were beef, egg and spring onions. Then you could pick an extra topping to go on top of that. I picked a piece of grilled chicken. It was incredible!

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week I tuned into some music from back home. My playlist includes The Social Experiment, Solange Knowles, and Chance The Rapper.
