岡山-Okayama, The Land of Hills and Valleys

However, it is as diverse an area as you can find anywhere else in the world. There are farms and fields of course, but there are also large cities in which many people work. It is often compared to U.S. states like West Virginia, Montana and North Dakota. If you go into Okayama City it looks as if it could be any major city in the world. 

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Instead of transforming the landscape within Okayama, Japan, the citizens have lived within the landscape. Mountain within Okayama usually have houses built into the side of the mountain or the train tracks wrap around the mountain. Usually, Japan used the land in a way that does not greatly alter the environment. The outside beauty of Japan is something that the country prides itself on, taking extreme care to build around major natural landmarks.
