Bikes, Trains, and Bullet Trains. Oh my!

Introduction:

In Japan, bikes are a common form of transportation. However, when you go to the countryside in Japan many people have cars or trucks. People living in these rural areas often travel far distances to go to grocery stores, work and even school. The most known and highly used form of transportation in Japan are the trains.

How do people get around?:

Trains are commonly used when traveling to different towns, and even different prefectures. Smaller stations are used to connect passengers to other small stations, but along these train lines, there will be larger stations. At the larger stations, there are many tracks and different types of trains such as the local lines and the Shinkansen. The Shinkansen, or "bullet train" is a very popular way to travel long distances in Japan. Because so many people rely on the train to commute in Japan, it is rare for trains to be late.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

When using the bullet train, at first it felt like a normal train, until I looked out of the window. The train was speeding through the countryside of Japan incredibly fast! It was amazing. The train was traveling at speeds of 150 mph. This is the average for the Shinkansen, but they are able to reach speeds of 200 mph. The best part was that it was extremely comfortable and spacious.
