Travel News

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was the Dead Sea.  My host family and I ended our Saturday adventure here while the sun was setting.  The Dead Sea is the lowest part of Israel, and in fact it has the lowest elevation on Earth! It is a beautiful body of water that borders Israel, Jordan, and the Judaen Desert.  I was able to see the breathtaking Jordan mountains in the distance. Many people visit the Dead Sea and float in the water because of its salinity. This means that the salt levels in the Dead Sea are very high, so everyone will float.  In addition, because of its great saline levels, the water is very good for any cuts or wounds. My host-sister sat with her feet in the water because she had a bunch of blisters on her foot. But you have to be careful not to get the water in your eyes because it stings!! A lot of other people buy mud found at the bottom of the Dead Sea that is known to be good for the skin. Tourists put this mud all over their bodies before entering the Dead Sea. It was a bit chilly for us this weekend, so we simply enjoyed the views, with snacks of course, and soaked our feet in the water.

Other Travel News from this week:

As I mentioned earlier, I was lucky enough to spend this Friday evening with my co-teacher and her family. The dinner took place at her parent’s house to celebrate her father’s 73rd birthday. However, because they keep Shabbat, I had to make sure I knew exactly how to get there because I knew I would have to walk there and if I had gotten confused, my co-teacher would not have been able to answer any text or calls.
