Southbound Road Trip

The weather in Northern Germany has been around 10° F for the past few weeks, and many lakes have frozen completely solid. The Baltic sea was also frozen enough to walk on this week!
Our hike around Eisenach featured a lot of natural elements, but also great views of the town and Wartburg castle.
On our hike in Eisenach we found the "Drachenschlucht," or "dragon gorge," which featured lots of icicles from the frozen water.
The Drachenschlucht was a large natural rocky-filled space in Thuringia, a very traditional German state. Lots of the path was narrow, and we walked over a natural creek with the help of grated paths.
While most of the Drachenschlucht had direct pathways to cross through, some features were not quite marked for entrance. I was nonetheless curious about what might be behind this section of the ravine.
While visiting the castle fortress, we were greeted by lots of fog rolling in as the temperature cooled. This castle, a UNESCO world heritage site, featured a museum and lots of medieval to baroque style architecture.
Not all parts of a fortress scream "CASTLE!" Wartburg is also where Martin Luther worked on translating the Bible from Greek and Latin into German, making it the first high accessible translation. Most of that work was completed here in the "Stube."
Every now and then I get to visit old friends around Germany. Jess, my former college roommate, is currently studying abroad in Lutherstadt Wittenberg.
