In Italy, the main langauge spoken is Italian of course. But, I was surprised to see how popular Spanish was in Italy. Almost every person I ran into knew at least a few words in Spanish. Hello in Italian is ciao.
In Switzerland, the main language is German. After German, French and Italian are the second and third most commonly spoken languages. Since I do not know any of those languages, I thought I would have a tough time talking to people there, but everyone I met spoke English very well. Hello in German is hallo.
In Budapest, the main language is Hungarian. Most people in the city knew enough English to communicate with me, but all of the signs were in Hungarian, so I was a little confused about directions the first day I was there. Hello in Hungarian is szia.
Italy uses euros. This is the same currency as Spain, so I didn't have to hassle with an ATM or change currencies while I was there.
