Tradiciones A Tope! (So Many Traditions!)

Introduction:

Hey guys! In this field note, I am going to share with you a few of the traditions that I am learning about while living here in Asturias. I am going to talk about a big tradition and a few small ones so you can learn about more than just one tradition. I hope you enjoy!

What tradition did I learn about?:

There are a few small everyday traditions that Spain upholds. The first one is something called dos besos. This is a simple tradition that you do whenever you see someone (whether you know them or not). All you do is say hello and kiss the person on each cheek. People in Spain are very affectionate and are always hugging and kissing each other on the cheek. It surprised me when I arrived because I have never greeted someone so intimately. It took me a little while to get used to it, but now I do it all the time! I think I may end up doing it when I am back in the U.S.A out of habit.

Another tradition in Spain is something called la siesta. This is a time in the day when the people of Spain take a rest. The working days here are different than in the U.S.A. Depending on where you are or the job you have, you sometimes get a break during the day. The break lasts about two to three hours, and most people end up taking a nap.
