Trains, Buses, Cars.. Oh My!

I usually buy my tickets weeks in advance and save them to the app on my phone. It is super easy to use, and you never forget your ticket because not many people forget their phone!

There is also the transportation option of taking trains, but not many people use them. There is not a metro or subway to get around the city center. We just use buses for that. There are small trains that go between cities that are outside of Oviedo and the city center, but it is cheaper to take a bus. It costs about five euros a ride for these trains, but if you are in a hurry, they get you where you need to go more quickly. There are also trains outside of Asturias (going to places such as Madrid). They take about two hours less than the bus to get to Madrid, but they are way more expensive. These tickets can be as high as fifty euros one way. I usually just sit uncomfortably on the bus for six hours and save the money.

Most people here have cars, especially if they live in the small towns outside of Oviedo. Some small towns don't even have supermarkets, so having a car is sometimes necessary. There are always taxis that you can use to get you to one part of town to the other, but sometimes they can get a little expensive. Usually a taxi from the city center to my house (about a ten minute walk) costs about five euros. I typically opt for walking.

This brings me to the last method of getting around: feet. Most people walk everywhere in Oviedo. It is so beautiful that there is no reason for you to sit in a bus or a car when you can easily walk to anywhere you need to go. On the weekends, everyone is outside walking in the park or along the shopping street in the center.
