Trains, Buses, Cars.. Oh My!

With all of the greenery we have here, many people make a living by farming. So, the less damage to the environment, the better for the economy.

I think the lack of usage of transportation says a lot about the cutlure here. I have been to many places in Spai,  but I have never seen so many people opt for walking instead of taking a bus or a metro. The culture of Asturias has so much to do with being outside. We have so many parks, running clubs, beaches, biking clubs, and mountains to climb. There is such a focus on outside activities that it is natural for people to choose walking if it is an option.

Beyond this, EVERYONE says hello. When I am walking in the street, I either smile at everyone I see or say "buenas" (good day). People are always sitting outside having a coffee and chatting with friends or people they have just met. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that people who take transportation usually take communal transportation. There are so many times when I have sat next to someone new on a bus and started talking about anything and everything. The culture of Asturias is very open and welcoming. People always allow me to speak in Spanish even if they know English, and I have never had a poor experience meeting someone here. I think this goes to show how even the smallest things can tell you so much about the culture of the place you are in.
