In the terai (flat plains) region of Nepal, the sun can be very intense. It felt a lot hotter in Itahari than in Bhaktapur; in part, because Bhaktapur is located at a higher elevation than Itahari. If you travel up into the villages located in the hillside near Itahari, the temperature drops and you will start to feel cold. Today, I visited a hillside village called Bhedetar and by late afternoon, it was getting chilly! With the rain also came a lot of fog, which made it hard to see the roads clearly at times. The roads zig zag a lot on mountain roads which can also be tough if you get car sick.
This week, I was visiting the Global Eye Hospital in Itahari and worked on a project on eye screening in children under age five. I visited a lot of clinics and hospital sites where children would recieve vaccines, and also participate in eye screening. In the more rural sites there were ducks, pigs, cows, buffalo, goats and chickens wandering around everywhere.
