In Nepal, they also listen to a lot of Indian music in the language Hindi!
When I return to the US, I will apply to residency programs to complete training in ophthalmology to become an eye surgeon. I got to work with an eye surgeon this week. He saw almost 40 patients in one morning! Then, in the afternoon, I got to see multiple eye surgeries; which was really cool! I also got to visit a lot of clinics and help a nurse on the team with the child eye screening program. I had a great time getting to know the hospital team :)
Since I was working at the hospital this week, I read a lot about different eye diseases/conditions that we saw the most in the hospital. In my free time, I also read some of the book "The Wind-up Bird Chronicle" by one of my favorite authors, Haruki Murakami. I actually started reading his books during an English class in highschool at GA! Murakami is a Japanese writer, and I recently found out someone is opening a Murakami-themed café in Kathmandu; which I am excited about!
This week, I did not play too many games as I was in the clinic a lot. I did get to walk around in the hillside a bit, though. It was beautiful! The air can be quite polluted in the cities, so it was nice to breathe the mountain air for a change. In Bhaktapur, I did play a lot of card games, like 'Go Fish' or 'UNO' with my host family. I even learned a new game recently called 'Dutch Blitz.' The card game actually originated in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, but I learned it in Nepal!
